Tecno Camon 50 Ultra Review, Price in Nigeria & Is It Worth Buying?
TECNO company has spent the last few years trying to move beyond what they’ve been known for decades, which is; budget phones, and the CAMON series has played a big part in achieving that.
Each new CAMON model promises better cameras and better performance.
After using a few other mid-range phones, I was eager to know whether this one could justify its higher price or if it was simply another phone with impressive specifications.

After using the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra for days, taking plenty of photos, streaming videos, browsing social media, and playing games, I started noticing the little things that don’t always show up on a specification sheet, and that’s what I’ll be listing in this review.
It Feels Like TECNO Has Grown Up
The very first thing that caught my attention wasn’t even the camera, it was the identical design it shared with the Tecno Camon 50 Pro. Although that’s not the point, when I said that “It feels like Tecno has grown up”, its a compliment, because the design is bold and confident on its own.
Instead of trying to copy trending flagship phones, the CAMON 50 Ultra totally feels like a device with its own identity. The curved edges, slim body, and clean camera layout give it an expensive look, without making it feel like it was overdesigned.
Honestly, even after making use of it for several days, I never got tired of still picking it up. It feels solid in the hand, but not heavy, and the balance is good enough that holding it during long YouTube sessions or while reading articles never became uncomfortable.
Small details like the finish on the back also help keep the fingerprint position under control, so the phone continues looking clean even after a full day of use.
The Camera Is What Stands Out
The CAMON series has always been known for its hyped cameras, so naturally, this was the feature I was most interested in trying out.
On paper, the 50MP Sony LYT-701 main camera, 50MP ultra-wide camera, and 50MP front camera sound huge and impressive, but remember, good hardware doesn’t always guarantee good photos.
Well, after using the phone for a while, I found myself taking fewer duplicate shots. Most of the time, the first photo was already good enough to use. Daylight images came out sharp with alot of detail, colours looked lively without becoming unrealistic, and the exposure stayed balanced even when the lighting wasn’t very perfect.
Portrait mode was another good surprise, the subject separation looked clean in many situations, while skin tones remained natural instead of looking heavily processed. The ultra-wide camera also held up better than I thought of it, keeping colours fairly consistent with the main sensor instead of looking like two totally different cameras.
The Display Is One of Its Best Features
The CAMON 50 Ultra comes with a big 6.78-inch AMOLED display, a 144Hz refresh rate, and also a high peak brightness, and you don’t even need to spend long with the phone before noticing them.
Scrolling through social media feels very smooth, what impressed me more was how good and organized everything else looked. The photos i took had plenty of contrast, the videos looked rich without appearing oversaturated, and reading articles late at night felt balanced without needing to constantly adjust the brightness.
Outdoor visibility is one of the many areas where the phone performs well. Even under bright sunlight, the visibility was bright enough to use the phone while on the go.
Battery Life Performance Also Stood Out
The CAMON 50 Ultra packs a huge 5,000mAh battery, and personally, I think that turned out to be more than enough for the way I normally use a phone.
Most days, my usage routine included messaging, emails, YouTube, Spotify, web browsing, social media, plenty of camera use, plus a little gaming. Even with that routine, I rarely found myself checking the battery percentage halfway through the day. So, yeah, the battery life is solid.
When it finally was time to recharge, the 70W Ultra Charge quickly made up the difference. I never felt tied to a wall socket for long all in the name of charging my phone. The phone also supports wireless charging, something that’s still uncommon at this price range and that adds a little extra convenience if you already own a compatible charger.
The Performance Is Above Average
As expected, powering the CAMON 50 Ultra is the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Ultimate, along with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Those are impressive specifications, but what matters more is how they actually perform everyday use, not what they wrote on the paper.
Apps opened almost instantly, switching between several tasks was smooth, and I could leave multiple apps running without constantly returning to reload screens.
That’s probably the biggest difference between the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra and many cheaper phones out there. It’s not that individual apps open dramatically faster, but that the phone keeps feeling just as responsive several hours later, even after you’ve been using it heavily.
Price in Nigeria
As of June 2026, the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra is available in Nigeria for around ₦730,000 – ₦860,000, depending on storage variant and where you buy.
| Retailer | Price Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Jumia | ₦849,999 | Official store, warranty included |
| Pointek | ₦749,000 | Physical store in Lagos |
Prices fluctuate with exchange rates and stock availability, so treat this as a guide rather than a fixed number, check the retailer’s page directly before buying.
So, Is the TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra Worth Buying?
Yes, if photography is high on your list, you’ll probably appreciate what TECNO has achieved here. The cameras are reliable across different lighting conditions, the display is good, performance is fast enough, and the charging speed makes usage even more convenient.
Like I mentioned earlier in this article, the performance is above average, meaning that its not the strongest out there.
So, if your only priority is getting the most powerful processor for heavy gaming, there are still other alternatives worth considering. But if you’re looking for a phone that feels balanced in every thing, then yes, the CAMON 50 Ultra is meant for you.
